Morgan Thatcher
Main verse: Unrevealed
Secondary: The Walking Dead
Dr. ████: You seem to be more in tune with each other since the last time we spoke.
2568-1: I stopped fighting it. Seriously, I’ve been to a war and gotten mutilated twice. I embraced my scars. I can embrace this.
Dr. ████: Sounds like a healthy choice to me.
2568-1: I think it’s easier to distinguish it from me when I just let it be. I think when I try too hard, I don’t know what is me and what is… that.
Dr. ████: Could you explain what you mean by ‘sort of’ seen it?
2568-1: Aye, I mean, maybe. You know when you think you see something in the corner of the eye? Some shadow figure moving? Yeah, yeah, like that. I see it in the corner of my eye, as if it’s holding me. But when I try to look directly at it, it’s gone. Not gone-gone. It’s still there. I see a, I don’t know, the air looks all wonky like on a real hot summer day. Sort of. Something is disturbing the light. I look away? The shadow is back. Sometimes it’s gone. Other times it’s there.
Dr. ████: What do you think it is?
2568-1: Don’t you know?
Dr. ████: Of course. But I want to know what you think. You’re the one with it inside of you.
2568-1: You sneaky cunts.
Dr. ████: [ Chuckles ] TCO-680 is a complicated subject. In truth, we don’t know everything about it yet. We’re grateful for all help we can get.
2568-1: It’s a spirit.
Dr. ████: How can you be sure?
2568-1: I talked to it. In my head. Technically it’s not a spirit, it’s somewhere in between of an in the flesh thing and a ghost thing. I don’t really get it.
Dr. ████: Well, neither do we.

DISLIKES:
Morgan has seen some shit. The more shit he has seen, the more laid-back he has become. He takes things as they come and goes with the flow. Instead of dealing with the worries of the future he deals with the now and is able to make quick, rational decisions - no matter if what is in front of him is a violent drug-addict, a soldier with the guts hanging out, or an otherworldly Eldritch monster threatening the safety of society. Little surprises him and he most likely knows exactly what to do in each situation.
Unless that situation is an off-work, relaxed, social situation. He was probably born to follow orders and gets insecure if there aren't clear 'rules' for what should be done or said, so he has a tendency to become awkward in social and relaxed circumstances. Not that he is a serious and stiff person, he just doesn't know how to people. Unsurprisingly, he is more of a listener than a talker.
Other than that he is a kind and open soul with a terrible sense of humor and a strong feeling for right and wrong. He is more loyal to his work than relationships, which is probably why he has stayed single for 25 years. Got quite the poker face and can lie to anyone's face if need be. Although he is on the wrong side of 50, he can still be childish and loves to have fun.
BACKSTORY
He joined the army as a wee boy and saw combat in the Gulf war. It went so-so until a friend had to step on a mine and got blown into bits. Morgan was close enough to get badly hurt and had to have his left lower leg amputated. He was 26 years old and was sent back home to his wife.
At home, everything became a downward spiral. Pain, mutilation, and PTSD apparently weren't so easy to deal with. It didn't take long for Morgan to use alcohol as self-medication since therapy took just way too long, and soon enough, drinking was the only thing that got him through the day. At his absolutely lowest point he tried to kill himself, and when Morgan needed his partner the most, she couldn't stand him any longer and left him.
Instead, family and friends were there to make him get back up on his feet, and with their support, he has continued to fight and slowly recovered from the PTSD. CBT, physical training, medication, a therapy dog, long conversations that had him writhe uncomfortably in the chair. It took nearly ten years before he even glanced at having a job again. Morgan enlisted in the police force, the most natural thing to him after being a soldier.
UNREVEALED ONLY FROM HERE:
A late night when he was 42, Morgan came in contact with an elusive organization and his first supernatural being. His partner collapsed almost at once by the look of all the blood, the inhuman wheezing, and the twisted body parts that belonged to something alive. Morgan kept his cool, analyzed the situation and was on his way to call in for backup. At the same time, a loud woman came forward and asked him to back away from the scene and creature while she shot it with some sort of syringe. Armed special forces with technology Morgan had never seen before came in shortly after and they worked fast to catch the creature and take it away. The only thing the woman said was "we'll be in touch" before she too disappeared.
And for the first time in ten years, Morgan got completely and utterly drunk when he came back home.
The day after there was a knock on his door. Only dressed in underwear and with messy hair, he opened and his gaze fell upon the same woman from yesterday. Despite her not getting any better answers than animalistic grunts, she asked him to get dressed and come with her. Said and done - hungover and scruffy, Morgan went to Nebraska to one of their facilities. Morgan expected to be executed. Instead, he was offered a job. Confused, he said no, why would they want a handicapped drunk like him? But they persisted, offered him to join an experiment to perhaps make the deal sweeter.
He said yes. Maybe it was the alcohol or the fact that he had nothing to lose. He was offered better health, eventually, a new leg (in which he didn't believe), better healing, better everything - so why not? However, he didn't read the fine print. He never expected the experiment to result in a parasite in his body that appeared to be black goo with a mind of its own. After a couple of days spent in shock, Morgan said yes to the job as a field agent, mostly to get out of the repeating tests. He never got a new leg, but his little parasite has protected him from damages that should've killed him in seconds. Good enough.
They had named the parasite Lii. Lii was about as happy about the experiment as Morgan - none of them wanted to share their body with the other, to be stuck with the other, and it took years before they accepted each other. Today, they both have learned how to co-exist in symbiosis, and Lii has accepted they are never going back to their home planet.
THE JOB. ETC.
FIELD AGENT (UNREVEALED ONLY)
At the same time as he is a cop with no desire to ever become a detective, he is also a field agent for a company that may very well be the SCP Foundation if you want, or a foundation called Tectus. No matter which one it is, Morgan still does the same job. He is their eyes and ears in society, gathers information on possible anomalies, takes care of the anomaly himself, or calls in for special forces to secure the situation and take it away. The company gives him all the equipment he needs to run around imperceptible in town, to be safe, and to protect himself.
He's also not that easy to deal with when he's at the facilities and he has been banned from some facilities and wings. Not because he is an asshole or anything like that, but because he gets too close to some anomalies, has formed close relationships with them, and had sex with a handful. Everyone is freaked out about how it could affect him and Lii and think Morgan is way too chill about it.
2568-1 (UNREVEALED ONLY)
Morgan isn't only a human. He himself is classified as an anomaly after the experiment. His parasite is 2568-2, but most people call it Lii. So far, he is allowed to work as a field agent, but if Lii proves to be dangerous, Morgan would have to live in his own cell at the foundation. Until he dies. If he can die.
The biggest difference between Morgan and other humans is the fact that he can perceive the supernatural and things that affect our reality (at the cost of his own eyesight), he is more sensitive to energies and electromagnetic fields, and his durability is better. He can withstand injuries that would normally break or bruise a human's skin and his stamina is greatly improved. He isn't invulnerable. His healing ability isn't actually faster than a normal human's, it's just Lii who is there and keeps him from bleeding out and protects him. And, he can't get addicted to any substance, which is his excuse to keep getting drunk and smoke. He just likes it.
