Appearance

HUMAN FORM:
Height: 198cm
Hair color: Brown
Eye color: Blue

ACTUAL DEITY FORM:
Height: 221cm
Hair color: Ash/silver blond.
Eye color: Grey

His body temperature is somewhat lower than a human being. He is rarely seen without a beard or stubble.

His scent is like that of winter itself in a forest. Fresh, cold, with a hint of sweetness like the one from pine trees.

Ull’s real form, which he uses when he either is alone at home or doesn’t care about the attention it brings him, is a lot taller and much paler than the human one. His hair is nearly white but still have golden tones to it and reaches to his chest. All other body hair and facial hair are just as blond, eyelashes included. His skin is freckled sort of everywhere.

Clothing wise he is casual, comfortable and practical. You won’t see him in a suit. Clothing items would be leather jacket, a shirt (he might be very fond of flannel and plaids, shh) or t-shirt, jeans and leather boots. Knitted sweaters are also popular. He doesn’t dress in many colors, but of he does they are earthy and desaturated. Something he always wears is a golden charm on a leather cord around his neck, on which a blessing from his mother is inscribed in runes.

Personality

Arrogant, stubborn, easily bored, careless, sarcastic, tactless, smartass, self-critical, no mercy, serious, rebellious, impulsive, aggressive, insensitive, refuses to ask for help, suspicious of others, quite unsocial and dislikes strangers a lot, not in tune with other people's feelings, comes off as cold and reserved. Adventurous, athletic, courageous, confident, decisive, generous, honest, humorous, loyal, patient, independent, effective, rational and logical, a strong sense of right and wrong, easy-going and accepts most for what they are, joyful, spontaneous, flexible, quick-witted, trustworthy.

Ull is that guy who always stays ridiculously calm. Nothing seems to get a rise out of him and his face is as expressive as a rock. Most people call him bitter even if he's far from it, for the simple reason he just looks and sounds that way. He may be a man of few words, quiet and a perfect listener, but when he actually speaks he often jokes and is sarcastic. Unfortunately, it is difficult to hear when he's sarcastic and joking, and when he's serious. Still, he's playful and casual. To provoke him is impossible and not to mention dangerous. If he's actually annoyed, he's quick to anger and be filled with rage, but it just as quickly simmers down.

While he has a talent to fall asleep everywhere and avoids doing things he doesn't enjoy, Ull is energetic and adventurous and loves to be out and about in nature and get moving. He's practical and pragmatic, analyzes and wants to understand how things work. He's a problem solver and thinks before he acts. On top of that he's a pain in the ass and questions rules and laws laid down by authority and rather does his own thing.

An optimistic realist who is jovial and loyal. He values honesty, patience, and to be objective with others. Not feelings. He's the absolute worst at feelings - others' and his own. He gets the vocabulary of a child if he tries to talk about it and rather keeps quiet. Not that he likes to talk about himself anyway. It makes him difficult to get to know, along with the fact that he dislikes strangers and needs to be alone. It turns him into a bit of a mystery, and yet he's a very simple man.

Background

Ull is one of the oldest Norse gods, and despite not being “the Allfather” that became popular much later, he was once a very big deal and it’s something he hasn’t forgotten. Once he was known as a sun/sky god worshiped on open fields, had fertility rituals done for him, and was married to Njärd. But things have changed since then and Ull has, in a way, been reborn.

Ull was born to his mother Sif - and an unknown father whom he has never met - in the forests of Vanaheim where he also grew up.

When Ull was a child he was incredibly wary of strangers and rarely ever spoke around people he didn’t know, and he would hide behind his mother Sif or stay really close to her. However, whenever Sif brought home guests he would make sure to stay hidden, and the guests would only know he was there because he managed to sneak up on them and shoot various stuff at them with a slingshot.

Just as he is now, he was fiercely independent and investigated everything on his own, climbing everything that could be climbed, picking things apart… He was a lot more emotional and loud around people he knew, talking and singing a lot, and wriggled out from people’s arms when they tried to hug or touch him. If any grownup made him angry, he kicked them in the shin. If other kids were annoying, he would beat them up.

As he got older, he thankfully gained more self-control instead of beating up others and also became quiet and cold.

Sif was the first one to put a bow in Ull’s hands and also the one who taught him how to hunt from a young age. He loved it from the start. The older he got, the more he perfected the art - just like skiing and fighting - and soon enough gained the title god of the bow and the hunt and was thus raised to godhood.

After the Vanir/Aesir war, Ull hopped over to Asgard and became one of the Æsir. Who knows why - but he got his portion of land and Ydalir anyway.

When Oden was exiled from Asgard for rape, Ull was chosen to rule and did so for ten years under the name Oden. Later, the true Oden was called back and Ull retired, being chased out of Asgard. During his flight, he was attacked by Danes, and even if people claim that they killed him, he very much survived. Barely.

The Danes managed to weaken him and shackle him, and with various methods, they indeed tried to kill him. Methods that would have killed any mortal; disembowelment, dismemberment, the blood eagle. This is the only event that has left permanent, visible scars on Ull’s body.

During his “exile” he took a liking to Sweden, which wasn’t really Sweden yet at the time, and settled down in the northern parts. That can explain his Swedish accent when talking and also his northern dialect when speaking Swedish since it is a place he frequently visits when he can’t stand Asgard anymore.

While being on Midgard, Ull has served as a knight. During the Viking age, he was a member of different war bands, a “house-carl”, for kings and jarls. On a few occasions, he was also the stallari and served as the king’s champion and as a sort of general for the war band. And during medieval times, he has indeed served as what you would actually call a knight. Perhaps he wasn’t too keen on their take that you must be faithful to the Christian god, but other than that he has always had the same values as the chivalrous knights.

Even later when the knights weren’t a thing anymore, Ull has been fighting in several Swedish wars to keep himself occupied.

Yew god. Bow god. Death god.

Verses

Verses that allow the supernatural and paranormal:

Everything above applies.

Verses that don't but you want to meet a deity anyway:

Let's gooooo- let's make it more mystique?! Let's have them meet in dreams!! Maybe your muse is going crazy?!?!

Human Ull:

It's not my favorite, but I have nothing against it. He's around 35-38 years old. He owns horses. He practices HEMA and is an instructor. Still a hunter guy who loves the winter. Probably lives as off-grid as he can. A prepper and survival nerd. The nerdiest about archery. He probably has a different name, Ull isn't exactly common or modern.
